Principal's Message

December 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

We’re at the end of our first semester here at Garfield Elementary.  I’d like to thank all of you for your continued support of our school programs.  So far 125 students have completed our Tuesday/ Thursday intervention programs and another 65 students have participated in our Saturday classes.  Sixty students have participated in ELA/Math EDGE which is a computer based program offered after school.  None of these programs would be successful without your cooperation.

During our first semester approximately 30 parents visited classes to watch our students in action.  Parents had a lot of positive things to say about how our students are learning as well as how well our staff works with your children.

I’m proud to say that the Garfield staff has worked very hard to develop the skills necessary to implement our core and supplemental curriculums.  Teachers continue to develop the art of working in Data Teams.  Many of our teachers are being trained for the Next Generation Science Standards and continue to attend professional learning in Eureka Math and Benchmark Advance.

You may have noticed that your son/ daughter is spending a lot more time working with computers both in class and in the computer lab as they prepare for our annual state test.

Again, I’d like to thank all of you for your cooperation and support.  It was great seeing so many of you at our student’s Winter Performance.  I hope that you all enjoy a restful winter break.  Please continue to read with your children as you celebrate the holidays, and I look forward to seeing you after the New Year.

God Bless,

Mr. David Hernandez
